The Sacred Heart of Chitrakoot
Mount Kamadgiri is the most revered site in all of Chitrakoot, Uttar Pradesh. This holy mountain is believed to be the original Chitrakoot where Lord Rama, Sita, and Lakshmana lived during their forest exile. The mountain is considered so sacred that even a single Parikrama (circumambulation) is said to grant moksha (liberation) to the devotee.
The 5km Kamadgiri Parikrama Route
The paved parikrama path circles the entire mountain and is approximately 5 kilometres long. The path is beautifully maintained and lined with ancient temples, flower vendors, and shaded trees. Most pilgrims complete the circuit in 1.5 to 2 hours at a comfortable pace.
Key Temples on the Parikrama Route
Along the Kamadgiri Parikrama, you will pass the Bharat Milap Temple (marking the emotional reunion of Lord Rama and Bharat), the Kanaklabha Temple, the Ramayan Darshan exhibitions, and dozens of smaller shrines dedicated to Sita, Rama and Lakshmana.
